Roller skates saw a return to fashion in epidemic proportions in 2015. Due to many reports of children and young people skating on the busy roads and pavements Lewisham council put together a leaflet to try to encourage responsible skating.
We proposed a small, credit card sized leaflet that would fit into Travel Card wallets, which then folded out to A3. A set of safety guidelines are set in speech bubbles around colourful, hand drawn illustrations of skating and local landmarks. The second side features a simplified map of the borough with all the skate parks and youth clubs marked and listed.
The leaflet was designed and illustrated to appeal to a teenage target audience, questioning what’s deemed “cool” and “uncool” behaviour from the viewpoint of the reader’s peers.
